New Tip Comes In As Search Continues For Missing Elderly Man
As citizens met for vigil, an attendee shared her dashcam video, appearing to show Paul Farmer, 84, missing from Belmont since Aug. 26.
BELMONT, CA — As concerned residents gathered over the holiday weekend at the Carlmont Shopping Center in Belmont for a vigil to highlight a missing senior citizen, one individual realized, and subsequently shared, her dashboard-camera video that could be helpful in the search for 84-year-old Paul Farmer, reported missing on Aug. 26, an organizer said.
The dash-cam video, recorded Monday, Aug. 26 at 7:44 p.m., seemed to show an individual, who fit Farmer's description on Highway 92 near the De Anza Boulevard offramp, said a local woman, Meredith L., who posted the images and video on her Facebook page.
Farmer, of Belmont, was reported missing by his wife Aug. 26 after he went for a walk from his home, the Belmont Police Department said. Farmer is described as being 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing around 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red ball cap, prescription glasses, a shirt or jacket, blue jeans and black shoes.

Belmont police, along with San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services, dozens of search and rescue personnel, including air support and search dogs, last week launched a search for the senior citizen, who suffers from dementia and reportedly walked away from his residence on the 1600 block of Molitor Road on Monday at about 5:30 p.m., police said.
"Tonight, we held a vigil in honor of Paul Farmer who is STILL missing from Belmont at Carlmont Shopping Center," said the organizer on Monday. "His lovely wife Emma was at the vigil. We gathered and the news media came. What we didn’t expect was to gain an important new lead: A woman who was there at the vigil realized she had dash camera video from her car of Monday 8/26/19 at 7:44pm that indicates a man on the highway 92 EASTBOUND De Anza off ramp exit."

According to the resident's Facebook post, the video seems to show Farmer was near Highway 92 two hours "after he was spotted on camera at Carlmont Shopping Center, and gives us a possible search area and time frame and could lead to new info."
Camera lighting, she said, may account for the fact his jacket appears "more brownish than green," and his hat "is a little more orange than red," as compared to the official "missing" description.
Locals or ride-share drivers, who commute along eastbound Highway 92 near the De Anza exit or drive near Interstate 280 to Ralston east toward Highway 101 to Hayward, plus residents who live along DeAnza, Crystal Springs, Sugarloaf or Laurelwood are asked if they recall seeing the individual, have dash-cams or home-surveillance systems that possibly show Farmer to contact authorities.
"We need to find Paul Farmer," Meredith said. "He needs to get home."
