Schools

Talented Young Women

Notre Dame High School supports and empowers young women - preparing them to lead a life of purpose and positive impact.

An all-girls school is the right answer for many students. According to the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, “What do girls’ schools do best? A lot. Whether they want to be astronauts, ambassadors, or accountants, girls need to know — not just think, but really know, deep down in their gut — that nothing can stand in their way. Girls’ schools send that message to girls every day.”

Notre Dame High School, Belmont (NDB) is amazed and inspired by its students everyday. Here some recent accomplishments:

Notre Dame Highs School Students received a total of two Gold Key Awards, five Silver Key Awards, and three Honorable Mentions for the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The two Gold Key Awards, by M.J. Peters ’18 and Rae Lin ’16 (respectively attached) will be entered into a final competition judged in New York. More than 300,000 entries were submitted with only 10% receiving Gold Key Awards.

All Northern High School Honor Band performed in Stockton in mid January and Notre Dame student Luisa Brown ’16 was among the musicians selected via audition. Luisa was also selected, via audition to the All-State Honor Band which performed on Thursday, February 11 and continued through Sunday, February 14. Luisa’s selection to the All-State Honor Band was exemplary as there were hundreds of students auditioning on flute (one of the most competitive instruments) and only 21 selected. Luisa is one of only two Notre Dame students ever to make All-State; the other was Andrea Strnad, NDB class of 2001. We are very proud of Luisa’s accomplishments, hard work and musicianship. cleardot.gif

Divya Mohan ‘17 took a trip to MIT for the Zero Robotics ISS Finals, an international competition conducted by NASA and MIT on January 24 and 25. She shared the “wonderful experience” in her own words, “The event started early morning at 3:00 AM. It was amazing to watch live the US astronaut Capt. Scott Kelly and Russian astronaut Mikhail Borisovich run the matches in zero gravity aboard the ISS (International Space Station). Based on our second rank in the alliance phase (2D, 3D, Alliance, ISS Finals), our alliance competed in the qualifying semifinal round but we narrowly missed moving to the championship match. There was some confusion (interruptions and hardware issues) during our match and the championship match was skipped due to lack of time. Nevertheless, it was a memorable experience watching the astronauts perform on the ISS and also having the opportunity to meet astronaut Col. Michael Fincke, an MIT alumni, on the ground who shared his experiences and answered questions from the audience.”

NDB positively educates for life - making a difference in the lives of our young women, our community and eventually, our world.
