Wiegand Gallery at NDNU Presents 40-Year Retrospective

Exhibit features rarely seen artwork from Notre Dame de Namur University gallery's permanent collection

Belmont, Calif.—The Wiegand Gallery at Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) is pleased to present “The Wiegand Gallery and Its Mission: 40 Years of Exhibitions” from March 15–April 20, 2019. A reception will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 4:00–5:30 p.m. The exhibition is curated by Robert M. Poplack, the Wiegand Gallery’s director. The gallery is located on the NDNU campus at 1500 Ralston Avenue in Belmont, California. Email rpoplack@ndnu.edu to make an appointment to view the exhibit.

“The Wiegand Gallery and Its Mission: 40 Years of Exhibitions” examines the impact of the gallery with images, photographs, catalogs, ephemera, and art from the past four decades of gallery’s history. The exhibit also includes rarely seen artwork from the gallery’s permanent collection.

For the past 40 years the Wiegand Gallery has carried out its mission to focus attention on the contributions and accomplishments of outstanding artists whose body of work calls for greater exposure. The gallery has also featured exhibitions that revealed unusual or rarely seen work of renowned artists. Many exhibitions at the Wiegand promoted the social justice mission of NDNU.

The Wiegand Gallery is housed at Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) in a magnificent 1874 carriage house made of native stone quarried on campus. This exhibit space, now in its fourth decade, with porthole windows and skylights, provides an unusually warm and inviting environment for experiencing art. The gallery focuses attention on the accomplishments of outstanding, under-recognized artists, as well as rarely seen work by renowned artists.
