
Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) will host a community forum featuring the candidates for California’s 47th Congressional District seat—Long Beach City Councilman Gary DeLong and State Senator Alan Lowenthal.

WHEN/WHERE:     The forum will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Pointe in the Pyramid at CSULB. Media members interested in attending should use the university’s Merriam Way entrance off Atherton Street between Bellflower Boulevard and Palo Verde Avenue. Parking is in Lot 13. The entrance to the Pointe is located beneath the yellow entrance of the Walter Pyramid. A map of the campus is available on the CSULB website.

SUMMARY:             The 47th Congressional District community forum is jointly sponsored by the League of Women Voters, CSULB, the University of California, Los Angeles, and their partners. Taping or filming of the event, which must be televised in its entirety, must be approved prior to the event.
DeLong is a third generation Southern California native who has lived in the Long Beach area for more than 25 years. He is chair of the City of Long Beach Budget Oversight Committee, chairman of the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority and the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority, and a member of the Long Beach City College Foundation Board of Governors. A small business owner, DeLong has more than 30 years in the telecommun-ications industry. DeLong and his wife, Dawna, have three children.
Lowenthal is a college professor and state senator who has lived in and worked to improve the Long Beach community for more than 40 years. During his tenure as a city councilman and state legislator, he has introduced legislation to clean up the air, improve schools and universities, created tens of thousands of jobs and brought together members of both parties to solve problems facing the state and communities. Lowenthal lives in Long Beach with his wife, Debbie; his two sons are raising their families nearby.
The forum will be run under League of Women Voters forum protocols. Information tables will be available in the lobby of the Pointe, but signs will not be allowed in the audience. Cards and pencils will be provided to members of the audience who wish to pose questions to the candidates
