There is a disturbing invader that has landed in Long Beach, and it has made its alien home in the oleanders of the city, according to a letter to the City Council this week.
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske released the news of the "devastating" Oleander scorch in her blog. But it is based on, and links to, a letter from George Chapjian, Long Beach's director of Parks, Recreation and Marine, and you will find it attached in a pdf.
At that link, you will see an array of photos of dead Oleander shrubs, a veritable tour of dead Oleander, in fact. We were hoping for the alient scorch, but no such luck.
