Bacteria Warning in Effect for Belmont Shore-Naples

LOS ANGELES, CA - In response to the overnight rain, Los Angeles County health officials Monday again issued a customary warning for swimmers and surfers to use caution in the ocean water near storm drains, creeks and rivers.

Health officials noted that rain runoff can carry debris and bacteria into the ocean, making conditions particularly treacherous for people entering the water near discharge sites.

Health officials issued a rain advisory, urging people heading to the beach to avoid swimming in areas where runoff is being dumped into the ocean.

"Discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers only comprise a small portion of the beach, therefore, anybody who wants to go to the beach will still be able to enjoy their outing," according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, which said its rain advisory will remain in place until 10 a.m. Thursday.
