Belmont Pier Closes Due To Sewage Spill In Long Beach

BELMONT SHORE, CA – Swimming areas west of the Belmont Pier in Long Beach remained closed Friday due to a sewage spill, authorities said.

About 9 a.m. Thursday, an estimated 11,200 gallons of sewage spilled from a line controlled by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works at USC Medical Center, according to the City of Long Beach.

About 8,300 gallons of the spillage entered the storm drain and flowed into the Los Angeles River.

Water testing will continue until results are in compliance with state water quality standards, city of Long Beach officials said.
