Boeing Announces Delivery of Sixth C-17 to UAE

Wednesday's news comes from the Long Beach facility, where many local residents work.

Boeing delivered a sixth C-17 Globemaster III to the United Arab Emirates Air Force and Air Defense this month, completing a 2010 agreement for construction of the advanced airlifters, the aircraft company announced today from its Long Beach manufacturing facility.

Boeing delivered four C-17s to UAE in 2011 and a fifth aircraft last month.

``After every delivery, UAE C-17s fly into action, conducting humanitarian airlift and disaster-response missions and life-saving aeromedical evacuation,'' said Bob Ciesla, Boeing vice president and C-17 program manager.

According to Boeing, C-17s are able to fly long distances and land in remote airfields in rough, land-locked regions, making the planes ideal for military, humanitarian and peacekeeping missions. Boeing has delivered 244 C-17s worldwide, including 216 to the U.S. Air Force active duty, Guard and Reserve units. C-17s have also been delivered to Australia, Canada, Qatar, United Kingdom and the 12-member Strategic Airlift Capability initiative of NATO and Partnership for Peace nations.
