DOD to Give Nearly $4 Million to Help Long Beach Reuse Boeing Plant
The Department of Defense awarded the city $3.9 million to help reuse Boeing's shuttered C-17 facility and help former workers find work.

The U.S. Department of Defense awarded Long Beach a $3.9 million grant to help the city determine how to reuse the site of Boeing’s shuttered C-17 production facility, the city announced today.
“This is a unique opportunity to turn the closure of the C-17 plant into a transformative moment for the city of Long Beach,” Mayor Robert Garcia said. “The investment made by the Department of Defense will help strengthen Long Beach’s economy, and solidify our city’s role as a leader in industry and innovation.”
With help from the grant, the city plans to work with industry and economic development experts to develop plans for the property to create jobs and build on the area’s manufacturing history. The effort will review future uses of the plant and surrounding area while also developing plans to help Boeing workers transition to new jobs.
