DUI Checkpoint Planned for Long Beach Saturday
With Grand Prix partiers out en masse, police caution drinkers to have designated drivers, and other law enforcement agencies surrounding Long Beach will be out in force as well.
Long Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint Saturday night through early Sunday morning with a mind to throngs of Grand Prix partiers, but actually part of an ongoing campaign.
The department announced in a news release that its Driving Under the Influence Enforcement Team, "along with police officers from surrounding local law enforcement agencies, will be deploying to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign."
The exact location of the checkpoints will not be disclosed, but officers will run DUI Saturation Patrols between 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday "in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.

“If you are caught driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, your ability to operate a motor vehicle will be assessed,” promised Long Beach Police Dept. Sergeant Doug Bender.
