Update: Missing Long Beach Man Found Safe

Missing since Saturday morning, the man has early stage Alzheimer's and needs medicine, and the Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's help to find him.

Update: 4:55 p.m.: From Long Beach Police Sgt. Aaron Eaton, "Victor Bejarano has been located and is being returned to his family.  Updated press release to follow."

An older Long Beach man with medical needs and memory problems apparently wandered from his home early Saturday and after searching more than three hours, police are asking the public's help in locating him.

Victor Bejarano, 74, needs medicine for his diabetes, but may not remember where he lives, as he has early stage Alzheimer's disease, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Aaron Eaton. Bejarano lives on Stanley Avenue north of 7th Street, police said. Stanley is several blocks west of Orizaba Avenue.

Bejarano is Latino, stands 5’3” and weighs about 220 pounds. He has a salt-and-pepper-goatee and may be wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap.

Neighbors reported last seeing him on his porch at about 7:30 a.m., and police were called to a report that he was missing at abiyt 11 a.m., Eaton said in a prepared statement, which reads in full:

On Saturday August 18, 2012 at approximately 10:57 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a residence in the area of 1500 block of Stanley in regards to a call of a missing elderly male who had wandered away from his home.   His neighbor last saw him sitting on his porch at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Victor Bejarano is a 74 year old Hispanic male who stands 5’3” and weighs approximately 220 pounds, with black hair, and a salt and pepper goatee.  He is possibly wearing a New York Yankee baseball hat, light blue button down shirt, and blue jeans.  Bejarano walks with a limp and has the early signs of  Alzheimer's.  He is a diabetic and is in need of medication.

The Long Beach Police Department immediately initiated a search of the surrounding areas and local hospitals, and also notified law enforcement agencies in surrounding cities, but was unable to locate the missing.
