Long Beach Man Murdered

A Long Beach man died Tuesday after having been shot during a dispute in a neighborhood west of the 710 Freeway and south of West Wardlow Street, police announced.

Martin Contreras, 25, was wounded during a dispute with another person--there was no suspect information--in the 1500 block of Arlington Street at about 1:20 a.m. Monday, the Long Beach Police Department said in a press statement.

It states:

Officers arrived and discovered the victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso.  The victim, identified as 25-year-old Martin Contreras of Long Beach, was transported to a local hospital and was listed in serious condition.  The preliminary investigation indicated that Victim Contreras was involved in a dispute with the suspect, when the suspect produced a handgun and shot him.  Today, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Long Beach Police were notified that the Victim Contreras had been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting. 

A motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation remains ongoing.  No suspect information is available for release at this time.
