Night Swimmer Rescued Off Long Beach Coast

It was not known why the man was in the stormy seas off the Peninsula.

A man swimming in the dark off the Long Beach Peninsula was safe Tuesday morning after firefighters pulled him out of the ocean and into a rescue boat. The man was not identified nor his age given, nor why he was in the water nearer the Peninsula's tip and the jetty (see map).

Long Beach Fire Department was called to a report of a swimmer "in distress" in the waters off 6500 East Ocean Boulevard just before 11 p.m. Monday, a news photographer reported to City News Service from the scene.

The man was brought unharmed to the Long Beach Fire Department boat dock in Alamitos Bay. No further details were reported.
