Queen Mary's Monsters: By Day and By Night

It's different at night.

I was able to visit the Dark Harbor by day, just before twilight slipped in around us. The monsters were not as scary by day... at least, that’s what I told myself. ”You’re not afraid.... You’re not afraid...” I repeated to myself as time and again a wizened, scarred, bloody, ghastly (and ghostly) face sprang into my personal face space. Then twilight came and night fell shortly after.

It was different at night.

I rely so much on my sight. Somehow being able to see that scary thing jumping out at me in the fading daylight made it less frightening. Later, in the darkness I could hear, but not see what was coming until it was right upon me. I couldn’t plan for it, and kept pushing my husband in front of me, while tightly grasping his hand. A friendly hand that told me help was near if I needed it.

I knew it was a performance, but being in the midst of it, my sane self couldn’t control the irrational fear as I screamed and squealed as the things... the monsters... sprang into view. I told myself that it was fun to exhibit fear by screaming. Did I need to scream? Could I have not screamed, whimpered and yelled? I’ll never know.

Outside of the mazes and shows it felt better. We sat in a cabana and rested for a few minutes. My companions went on to a maze - I was exhausted from all the fright. There were some very cool shows that I videoed.

The Queen Mary Sliders - A street sliding group of somewhere around 10 sliders who put on an amazing, street sliding show near the cabanas. It seemed to have been around 9:00 PM, and there was another announced around 10:00 PM.

The Monster Mashers - Oh, I don’t know what they call themselves, but the music was infectious and the monsters caught the bug. Great fun!

Photos above and you can check out the sliders and the mashers in this video:
