200 Rogers Students Help Deliver Easter Baskets

The Long Beach Fire Dept. will escort Belmont Shore's middle school students as both groups walk their contributions toward 1,800 Easter baskets the community hopes to give strapped families.

In a cheerful spring rite, a red wave of Rogers middle school students in uniform red sweatshirts and the Long Beach Fire Department's engine will make their way today from the campus to Easter Basket Central.

Belmont Shore's middle school has joined again this year in donating more than 200 Easter baskets of treats, art supplies, and fun items--or cash to stock them--in the annual spring event created by Justin Rudd's Community Action Network (CAT). Those are just the baskets collected via the school's 6th-8th graders.

Escorted by firefighters, the students will leave their school at about 2 p.m. and walk the few blocks to Bay Shore Church fron their school. They will arrive at the church, where the Easter basket assembly and drop-off will have been underway since 8:30 this morning.

Between Thursday and Friday, the Belmont Shore and greater Long Beach community is expected to contribute to or donate some 2,000 Easter baskets that are then given to the children of struggling families in Long Beach.

Most of the donated baskets fall into the $20 cost range, and details and tips of what items can be useful, and who last year's recipients were, can be found here.
