Sunny at the Coast, Winds Forecast in Valleys

Gusty winds are forecast for the valleys of Southern California, but Long Beach at midday was breezy at best, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 86 degrees.

If you are driving out of Long Beach, there are some forecasts to note.

Winds blowing at speeds of between 15 and 30 miles per hour and gusting at between 40 and 45 mph will sweep the Santa Clarita Valley and the San Gabriel mountains this morning, forecasters said. A wind advisory signifying an expectation of 35-mph winds or 45-mph gusts will be in effect in the Santa Clarita Valley and the San Gabriels in both Los Angeles and Ventura counties from 4 a.m. to noon.

``Strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,'' noted a National Weather Service advisory. ``Use extra caution as gusty crosswinds may develop on area roadways such as Interstate 5 and Highway 14.''

North-to-northeast winds will pick up overnight and persist through noon Tuesday, according to the NWS, which forecast partly cloudy skies today and highs ranging from the 70s at the coast to the 90s in some valley and mountain areas.

The NWS forecast highs today of 70 in Newport Beach; 75 at LAX; 76 in Avalon; 82 on Mount Wilson and in Long Beach; 83 in downtown L.A.; 85 in Anaheim; 86 in San Gabriel; 89 in Pasadena and Saugus; 90 in Burbank, Palmdale and Lancaster; and 95 in Woodland Hills.
