1 Dead In Christmas Night Crash On I-80: CHP

The Solano County collision happened as the roadway was wet from rain, the California Highway Patrol said.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A woman died as a result of a collision late Christmas night on Interstate Highway 80 in Solano County.

Just before 11:30 p.m. Friday as the roadway was wet from rain, the driver of a Honda Civic entered eastbound I-80 from the Travis Boulevard onramp and lost control of the car, California Highway Patrol Officer David Harvey said Monday in a news release.

The Honda went across all eastbound lanes and crashed into the concrete center median before coming to rest in the fast lane, Harvey said.

Shortly thereafter, a Lexus traveling in the eastbound fast lane collided with the Honda.

The CHP said three other cars were involved in separate crashes near the scene but no injuries were reported in those collisions.

However, all three people in the Lexus were taken by ambulance to Northbay Medical Center in Fairfield.

A 62-year-old Sacramento woman who was riding as a passenger in the back seat of the Lexus became unresponsive at the hospital and was pronounced dead, Harvey said.

The identity of the deceased woman was not released Monday by the CHP.

A 20-year-old Fairfield man was driving the Honda and suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Lexus, a 33-year-old Irvine man, also suffered minor injuries.

"This is an active investigation and the cause of this collision has not been determined," Harvey said.
