28 Solano County Schools Participating In Bike-To-School Day

"For our young adults, biking provides a sense of independence and reinforces the development of healthy, lifelong habits."

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Solano County students are encouraged to strap on their safety helmets and pedal their way to school Wednesday, May 8 for National Bike to School Day. The annual event is organized locally by Solano Safe Routes to School, a program of the Solano Transportation Authority and Solano Public Health, and focuses on the physical and environmental benefits of biking to school instead of commuting by car.

"Biking is a great way for students to travel to school, get some exercise, and reduce traffic around their school," said Fairfield Mayor Harry Price, who serves as STA board chair. "For our young adults, biking provides a sense of independence and reinforces the development of healthy, lifelong habits."

This year, 28 Solano County elementary and middle schools are participating, according to Vincent Ma, spokesman for STA.
