Bay Trail-Vine Trail Project Awarded Grant Funds

A separated bicycle lane will be installed along Enterprise Avenue, parallel to state Highway 37— and 40 new oak trees will be planted.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The Solano County Transportation Agency recently received a $410,180 grant from the California Natural Resources Agency toward the city of Vallejo Bay Trail project.

The grant funds will be used to close the gap between the Vallejo section of the San Francisco Bay Trail and the Napa Valley Vine Trail. A separated bicycle lane will be installed along Enterprise Avenue, parallel to state Highway 37, and 40 new oak trees will be planted along the 1/3-mile stretch to create an urban greenway.

"In addition to the many benefits that The Bay Trail – Vine Trail Project brings to the residents of Vallejo, this project also creates an inviting recreational activity," said Vallejo Mayor Robert McConnell, vice-chair of the STA board. "Once completed, this project will provide great access to our waterfront."

The Vallejo Bay Trail – Vine Trail Project is a 4.2-mile section of the San Francisco Bay Trail. The Bay Trail is a planned 500-mile, multi‐use trail administered by the Association of Bay Area Governments. When complete, the trail will encircle the San Francisco Bay, linking the shorelines of 47 cities and nine counties. The Napa Valley Vine Trail (Vine Trail) is a 47-mile multi‐use trail administered by the Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition that is planned to extend from the Vallejo Ferry Terminal to the city of Calistoga.

The grant was awarded from Round 4 of the Urban Greening Program as part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.

"We are excited for this funding and want to thank the California Natural Resources Agency for partnering with the STA on this project," said Vacaville Mayor Ron Rowlett, STA board chair. "The Bay Trail – Vine Trail serves a severely disadvantaged community in the City of Vallejo and this new connection will ensure a high quality, environmentally friendly, active transportation connection between low-income neighborhoods and regional and local transit facilities, such as the San Francisco Bay Ferry, SolanoExpress, and SolTrans, which provide reliable and equitable transit services for older adults, students, and essential workers."
