After more than a year, the Museum is ready to resume regular operations!

Beginning Wednesday, July 7, the Museum resumes its full pre-pandemic schedule of operations — Wednesday through Sunday, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. At this time, we request all visitors continue to wear a face-covering while inside the building, regardless of vaccination status.

While the Museum was closed to the public, Museum staff and volunteers were hard at (socially distanced) work, continuing the renovation of our permanent exhibits. If you haven’t been into the Museum since we reopened on a limited schedule on March 21, stop by and see our new displays of local Cattle Brands and California Native American Baskets; the Spanish Rapier display added to the Early California Gallery; the new Railways and Waterways gallery – featuring an exhibit about Matthew Turner, including the expedition of his ship the Galilee which mapped the magnetic fields of the Pacific Ocean; a new display about the Pony Express in Benicia; and new cases and storyboards about the history of the Transcontinental Railroad in Benicia and our many historic passenger and railroad ferries.

Installation continues on the "Made in Benicia" gallery, highlighting early Benicia businesses and manufacturing, including the canneries, the tanneries, the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, and Yuba Manufacturing. Also in progress is an exhibit highlighting some of the businesses currently operating in the Benicia Industrial Park: Schoenstein & Company, Bradbury and Bradbury, Dunlop, Arthur Stern Studios, and Ralphs-Pugh.

Although we plan to remain open during our regular hours going forward, we ask you please continue to check our website for any changes to our operating schedule. Hours are subject to change.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you in the Museum soon!
