Benicia Police Log: Fake ID, Domestic Violence and the Disappearing Barking Dog

Friday, April 20, 2012

3:32 a.m.: The activation of a burglar alarm at a business on Industrial Way was a malfunction.

8:20 a.m.: A parent and a teenaged son on Violet were having an argument about whether he had to go to school.  After police visited the home the mother took her son to school.

8:43 a.m.: The two suspicious guys sitting in a suspicious vehicle on Sherman were doing work in the area.

9:04 a.m.: A pick-up truck was reported stolen from the vicinity of Grant Street.  Investigating officers were told the theft happened on April 18, 19 or early in the morning of April 20.

9:16 a.m.: There was a verbal dispute between a man and woman on Southampton Road. The dispute centered on the couple’s child.

9:18 a.m.: A resident on Solano reported that tree trimmings had been left in their yard by a neighbor.

9:36 a.m.: There was a report of two kids possibly smoking marijuana on Southampton Road.  Officers checked and determined the kids were not high.

10:05 a.m.: The suspicious looking kids in the area of Channing were gone before police arrived on the scene.

10:46 a.m.: A resident on East Fifth Street reported a suspicious person taking pictures in the area.  It turned out to be an out of town dad looking for the ball field where his son was playing.

12:11 p.m.: A small plate was removed from a light post on Military West.  Officers called in Public Works to fix.

12:37 p.m.: Officers talked to a resident on Military West who reported a possible violation of a custody order.

12:43 p.m.: There was an argument between a mother and her adult daughter on East O Street.

1:46 p.m.: Officers tried to contact the owners of the motorcycles parked on the pedestrian path at Community Park.

1:56 p.m.: A vehicle parked in the grass along Interstate 780 belonged to a CalTrans worker.

3:01 p.m.: A residential burglar alarm at a residence on Lilac was activated.  Investigating officers decided it was a malfunction.

3:48 p.m.: A city employee accidentally set off a burglar alarm at a city facility on Rose Drive.

3:54 p.m.: Officers gave a resident on Winston advice regarding the parking habits of a neighbor.

4:47 p.m.: A group of kids was reported trespassing in the pool area of an apartment complex on Southampton Road.

5:03 p.m.: A car parked on First Street was blocking a crosswalk.

5:03 p.m.: A resident on West L Street wanted advice on how to deal with an adult son.

5:36 p.m.: A man was reportedly driving on Southampton Road while drinking a beer.  Officers were unable to locate the man or the car he was driving.

6:14 p.m.: Police received a report of a car driving erratically on Columbus Parkway.  They were unable to locate the vehicle.

6:49 p.m.: A burglar alarm malfunctioned at a business on Military East.

7:17 p.m.: A 29-year-old Benicia man was arrested on Southampton Road for assault.

9:01 p.m.: The disappearing barking dog made an appearance on Military West, then disappeared.

10:24 p.m.: A 46-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated.  The arrest took place on Military East.

10:32 p.m.: A vehicle on West H Street had been burglarized.  The stereo was taken.

Saturday, April 21, 2012

12:04 a.m.: A 20-year-old Clovis woman was arrested on a variety of charges, among them violating probation and presenting a false ID.  The arrest took place on First Street.

12:10 a.m.: officers secured an unsecured door on Southampton Road.

1:40 a.m.: A 33-year-old Benicia man was arrested on a variety of charges including possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.

4:27 a.m.: Officers were unable to locate a suspicious vehicle reported in the vicinity of Stone Road.

5:29 a.m.: The burglar alarm at a business on Industrial Way malfunctioned.

6:57 a.m.: A homeowner on Chelsea Hills accidentally activated the burglar alarm.

7:18 a.m.: A generator left on overnight was a bit too noisy for a resident on East L Street.  The operator of the generator got a visit from police who relayed the concerns of the neighbor.

7:42 a.m.: A vehicle on East G Street was vandalized.

8:43 a.m.: A citizen on West Tenth Street asked for advice on serving a restraining order.

9:08 a.m.: There was a non-injury traffic collision on Military West.

10:08 a.m.: Police received a 911 call from a residence on East H Street.  It was an accidental call.

10:51 a.m.: A homeowner on Rose Drive accidentally activated the burglar alarm.

11:02 a.m.: A vehicle on West K Street was towed because the registration was expired.

3:19 p.m.: A burglar alarm at a business on Military East malfunctioned.

3:26 p.m.: The birds in an outdoor birdcage on Havenhill were determined to be in good shape.

3:36 p.m.: A Southampton Road business complained of skate boarders in the area.  They had exited the premises before officers arrived.

4:22 p.m.: A resident on Camellia reported a possible burglary.  It turned out it was the roommate who had moved some things around.

4:53 p.m.: A family disturbance was reported in a car parked on East Second Street.  Police talked to the family.

5:36 p.m.: The business owner caused a burglar alarm activation at a business on Industrial Way.

6:51 p.m.: Officers investigated a report of people firing air rifles in the open space near McAllister.  The persons allegedly firing the guns were gone when officers arrived on the scene.

7:29 p.m.: Police investigated a report of someone with a metal detector tearing up the grass on the Marina Green.

8:22 p.m.: The owners moved a car that was illegally parked on Riverview.

9:50 p.m.: A suspicious person who was stumbling down the road on Military West was given a ride home by police.

10:31 p.m.: Officers opened an investigation into an alleged case of domestic violence on East L Street.

11:25 p.m.: Officers arrested a 30-year-old Vallejo man for threatening assault and domestic violence.

11:46 p.m.: A resident on East Fourth Street reported something was thrown at a front window.

12:10 a.m.: The loud noise reported on George had subsided by the time officers arrived.

12:18 a.m.: Officers began an investigation into a fight on Southampton Road.

12:25 a.m.: Officers convinced the people who were having a late, loud party on West 13th Street to turn it down.

1:27 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on East Sixth Street.

2:09 a.m.: Officers were unable to find a motorcyclist who was reportedly following a car on First Street and yelling at the car’s driver.

2:46 a.m.: A burglar alarm at a business on Military East malfunctioned.

2:47 a.m.: The folks having a loud party on Columbia turned down the music after speaking to police.

3:19 a.m.: A resident on McCall reported seeing two kids jump over their neighbor’s fence and run away.  Officers checked the area but didn’t find anyone.

3:30 a.m.: An alarm activation on East L Street was determined to be a malfunction.

5:26 a.m.: There was a suspicious vehicle parked at a business on East Second Street.

7:42 a.m.: A burglar alarm at a business on East Industrial Way malfunctioned.

8:37 a.m.: A 29-year-old Vallejo woman was arrested on and outstanding warrant issued in Berkeley.

9:01 a.m.: There was a suspicious vehicle parked in a lot on Southampton Road.  Car and driver left the area before officers arrived on the scene.

9:54 a.m.: Officers began an investigation into the theft of a gun from a home on Chelsea Hills.

10:53 a.m.: Officers helped two neighbors on Military East work out the details of a hit and run accident.

11:04 a.m.: Officers responded to a report of a family disturbance on West K Street.  They had a talk with a juvenile living at the residence.

11:06 a.m.: An alarm malfunctioned on First Street.

12:15 p.m.: There was a complaint about a vehicle parked on La Cruz.  The car was gone when officers arrived.

12:25 p.m.: The kids playing baseball on East L Street were warned that they might be too close to a building.

2:21 p.m.: A vehicle blocking a driveway on First Street was towed.

3:32 p.m.: A car parked in a handicap space at Solano Square was cited.

6:53 p.m.: Police received a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Southampton Road.  They were unable to locate the car.

9:13 p.m.: There was a report of kids smoking pot and drinking beer on East Fifth Street.  Officers couldn’t find the kids.

10:09 p.m.: Officers investigated a report of a woman screaming on East K Street.  They couldn’t find anything suspicious.

Editor’s Note:  Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
