Benicia Puts Moratorium On Evictions In City: Coronavirus

Under the order, tenants have to notify their landlord if they are unable to pay some or all of their rent amid the COVID-19 emergency.

BENICIA, CA — In response to the coronavirus emergency that has left many unemployed, Benicia City Manager Lorie Tinfow on Sunday signed an order staying evictions for non-payment of rent in the city.

The order does not relieve tenants of liability for unpaid rent but puts a moratorium on evictions for non-payment of rent due to the impact of COVID-19, and includes provisions for eviction notices and no-fault evictions, according to a city news release.

Tinfow signed the order in her authority as the city's director of Emergency Services, in accordance with the California Emergency Services Act and Benicia Municipal code.
