Driver Dies In Vallejo I-80 Offramp Crash

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A man died early Sunday morning when he lost control of his car on a Vallejo freeway offramp. The solo-vehicle crash involving a 2015 Cadillac CTS sedan was reported just before 2:30 a.m. at the Benicia Road offramp from westbound Interstate Highway 80, California Highway Patrol Officer David Harvey said.

CHP's preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and the Cadillac went off the ramp and down the embankment. The front of the car collided with the embankment, Harvey said.

"The Cadillac rolled over approximately three times before coming to rest on the dirt embankment bordering the north road edge of the Benicia Road offramp," Harvey said.

The driver, a 29-year-old Vallejo man, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Cadillac, suffering fatal injuries.

The Solano County Coroner's Office is expected to release the driver's name pending notification of his next of kin.

"Alcohol and/or drugs is being investigated as a factor in this collision," Harvey said.
