Driver Leads Officers On High-Speed Chase Along I-80, Hwy 12: CHP

The chase came to an end when the driver tried to make a U-turn on state Highway 12 and collided with another car.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A driver accused of brandishing a gun at another driver Tuesday on the freeway in Solano County was arrested after leading officers on a high-speed pursuit and colliding with a car, the California Highway Patrol said.

It was just after 11 a.m. Tuesday when CHP dispatchers received a report that a person in a black Nissan Altima who brandished a handgun was on Interstate Highway 80.

Officers spotted the Altima speeding down westbound I-80 northeast of state Highway 12 and were trying to get into position to stop the car when it suddenly merged onto SR-12 toward Napa, the CHP said.

The Nissan driver kept speeding westbound but then tried to make a U-turn and crashed into a Honda Civic, according to the CHP.

The Honda driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

"Luckily, the two unrestrained children and right-front passenger in the Nissan were not injured," the CHP said.

The driver of the Nissan threw the loaded handgun into some weeds along the road but officers recovered it and took the driver into custody on suspicion of multiple charges, the CHP said.
