Memorial For Vallejo High Grad Scheduled For Monday

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A memorial service for Alameda County Firefighter Eric John Mikel is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at 3 Crosses Church in Castro Valley. Mikel was 48 when he died June 24 while off-duty in Richmond.

In a Facebook post, the Alameda County Fire Department said, "We are grateful for the outpouring of support for Eric and his family, and the members of the Alameda County Fire Department during this challenging and devastating time."

There are two funds set up for the Mikel family. The first is through the Alameda County Firefighters Association. Checks may be mailed to: Alameda County Firefighters Association, 369 15th St., Oakland, CA 94612. Write "Mikel Family" in the memo line of your check.

The second account is set up through Go Fund Me. His fundraising page says, "A devoted husband and father, Eric was an active firefighter with ACFD for 14 years. He had a passion for helping others which was evident in his care for the community both on and off the job. Eric will dearly be missed by all that knew him."

Mikel grew up in Vallejo and was a graduate of Vallejo High School and San Jose State University. He is survived by his wife Robyn — their 20th wedding anniversary would have been July 24 —son, Donovan Marques Mikel; his parents John and Rhonda Mikel; his sister, Nicole Mikel-Brumfield; and numerous relatives. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Alanah Janae Mikel.
