SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Solano Community College student Syan Lopez, a graduate of Armijo High School, has been named the recipient of a National Institute of Health summer internship, according to a news release from the college.

Lopez, who graduated from Armijo High's International Baccalaureate program, turned down acceptance to University of California, Los Angeles to attend SCC with the intention of entering the college’s bachelor of science in biomanufacturing program, SCC officials said. He will receive a $2,190 stipend from NIH for completing the 10-week, 2019 NIH Community College Summer Enrichment internship program in Bethesda, Maryland.

The internship program was developed to encourage students to consider careers in biomedical sciences and increase the number of community college students who transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
