Solano County Moves To Red Tier Along With 5 Other CA Counties

Residents can once again go to movie theaters, dine indoors at restaurants and go to indoor gyms — albeit with some restrictions.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Starting Wednesday, Solano County residents can once again dine indoor at restaurants, go to movie theaters and shop at malls, albeit with some restrictions.

Solano and five other six California counties — Alameda, Butte, Calaveras, Imperial and Santa Cruz — moved from the state's "widespread" purple tier into the "substantial" red tier Tuesday by showing a reduced coronavirus case positivity rate of between 5 percent and 8 percent for two weeks in a row.

"The declining number of cases is great news for our community as a whole, with local businesses now able to expand operations," said Dr. Bela Matyas, public health officer for Solano County. "However, it is still critical for everyone to continue to practice health and safety measures. Let us all continue to do our part to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19 infection — wear a mask, practice physical distancing, limit gatherings with others outside of the household, and get vaccinated when the vaccine is available for you."

The less-restrictive tier on the state's Blueprint for a Safer Economy means the following businesses and activities can expand capacity or resume operations with modified guidelines:

  • Indoor dining at restaurants (maximum of 25 percent of the facility's capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer)
  • All indoor retail (maximum of 50 percent of the facility's capacity)
  • Indoor shopping centers, indoor swap meets (maximum of 50 percent of the facility's capacity, but common areas remain closed)
  • Museums, zoos and aquariums (maximum of 25 percent of the facility's capacity)
  • Indoor movie theaters (maximum of 25 percent of the facility's capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer)
  • Indoor gyms and fitness centers (maximum of 10 percent of the facility's capacity)
  • Schools may open for in-person instruction while the county is in red tier status
  • Youth sports: Outdoor low-and moderate-contact sports are permitted; outdoor high-contact sports are also permitted if state guidelines are adhered to

Prior to opening under the red tier, all businesses and activities must review state guidelines, complete a state COVID-19 general checklist and ensure a written plan is on file and available for public review, county officials said.
