Beverly Hills Car Thief Suspect Identified, Taken Into Custody

Police have released the name of a man suspected of stealing a car, resulting in a chase, crash, and standoff in Beverly Hills.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A 29-year-old man is behind bars Tuesday after leading police on a short pursuit that ended in a crash in Beverly Hills.

Police allege that Daniel Allen of Santa Clarita stole a white Toyota Corolla in his native city. Beverly Hills police began chasing Allen just before 5 p.m. Monday, but the chase ended when Allen crashed into a pedestrian and two other vehicles near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Doheny Drive. Two people were injured, BHPD spokesperson Lt. Max Subin told reporters on-scene.

After the crash, Allen briefly got out of the car, and then went back inside for more than three hours, according to Subin. Subin also reported that Allen used blankets and sleeping bags to cover his windows.

The surrounding area was closed to traffic from about 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday.

At around 8:30 p.m., officers used non-lethal gas canisters into the car. Allen crawled out and was taken into custody. He was first taken to a hospital for treatment, then taken into custody. He is charged with felony vehicle evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest, and his bail is set at $75,000, according to a BHPD news release.

The victims injured in the crash were taken to the hospital and released Thursday night, NBC4 reported.
