Beverly Hills Celebrates Earth Day With Movies And Trivia
City government officials posted environmental trivia, and families are invited to eco-themed documentaries and webinars.

BEVERLY HILLS — Pop quiz! What goes into your green bin? Is it: A) Yard clippings B) Greasy Pizza Boxes C) Food Waste or D) All of the above?
You can find out the answer to that question, posed by Councilwoman and former Mayor Lili Bosse, and others about how to live in an environmentally conscious way in Beverly Hills by tuning into the city’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts at 5 this afternoon. To celebrate Earth Day, the City asked its public officials to put out questions to the public. Mayor Lester Friedman asked the name of the City’s water tool that allows residents to set a water budget and tells them if there’s a leak in the water system. Councilman Julian Gold asked if it’s true that Beverly Hills is a member of the Clean Power Alliance, an organization that allows cities to procure energy that is 36, 50, or 100% green. Vice Mayor Robert Wunderlich asked what percentage of the City's drinking water is expected to be produced locally by 2022: 10, 20, 30, or 40%.
The City is also observing Earth Day through a free, online screening of the 2015 documentary “Racing Extinction,” about the ongoing mass extinction of species, featuring insights from basketball star Yao Ming, scientist Jane Goodall, and entrepreneur Elon Musk. At 5 tonight, residents can tune in for a Zoom webinar with Dr. Joshua Fisher, the science lead at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s ECOSTRESS Mission, which studies human water usage. At 7, residents can talk to “Racing Extinction” filmmaker Louie Psihoyos, who also directed the Oscar-winning 2009 documentary “The Cove” about dolphin hunting, and racecar driver Leilani Munter.
