Beverly Hills Earth Month Features Education, Contests

The city is celebrating Earth Month through educational symposiums and artistic contests focused on water conservation and climate action.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — To finish out Earth Month, the city of Beverly Hills is sponsoring a booth at the Farmers Market on Sunday, April 25.

The city’s Public Works department is setting up an informational Earth Day booth that will provide information on the city’s sustainability efforts and how citizens can participate in them, provide free compost, and free shredding services. The Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday at the Civic Center.

This is just one of many Earth Month events sponsored by the city. On April 1, three guest speakers spoke at a “Let’s Talk Trash” event about zero waste, plastic pollution, and the food waste crisis.

Throughout the month, community volunteers can sign up for a virtual cleanup, where they can pick up trash whenever and wherever they want. Volunteers have the option to upload photos of themselves submitting trash, and the first 100 registered volunteers will have a tree planted for them. Click here for more information.

It is also sponsoring an Earth Day Visual Art and Video contest for Beverly Hills students. K-5 students are encouraged to create an art based on the idea that “Water is Life.” The art should reflect on proper conservation and stewardship of water resources. Entries are due by May 15. Click here for rules, and here to submit.

The city is also partnering with West Hollywood on a virtual symposium called Urban Forestry and Biodiversity: Urban Environments in Concert with Nature, which will bring together experts to discuss urban forestry, biodiversity, and the harmonizing of natural and built environments. The symposium will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Zoom.
