Beverly Hills Police & Fire Walk To Promote Preparedness

The city's fire and police departments will walk with community volunteers Saturday to promote an emergency preparedness program.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — If you see police and fire trucks along your street on Saturday, don’t worry - chances are they’re taking part in a parade to promote Beverly Hills’ Emergency Preparedness initiative.

Community volunteers will join over a dozen personnel from the city’s police and fire departments to walk through the neighborhood around La Cienega Park - the neighborhoods south of Clifton Drive and east of Robertson Boulevard - starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. The walk is occurring to promote Just In Case BH, a city initiative to bring residents, businesses, and city services together by “seamlessly assisting each other, before, during, and after emergencies through disaster preparedness, organizational leadership, and communication.”

The program, in addition to providing a wide array of online resources on emergency preparedness, divides the city up into zones designed to protect themselves in an emergency. Each zone is comprised of Zone Coordinators, Neighborhood Coordinators and Block Captains.

Zone Coordinators help organize their zones into smaller neighborhoods, and help organize meetings. Neighborhood Coordinators know the emergency needs of each block, keep track of the residents’ different emergency qualifications, organize CERT trainings, and communicate with Zone Coordinators and Block Captains. Block Captains sign residents up for trainings, hand out pamphlets, and pass on information to Neighborhood Coordinators. Visit here to learn more, or sign up here to volunteer.

The Just In Case website also provides links to the city’s extensive emergency management plans, alert system, CERT training, emergency kits, and more.

Saturday’s walk will begin at 11 a.m. at La Cienega Park on 8400 Gregory Way. The next Just In Case BH Community Zoom Meeting for residents in Zone 9 - the area south of Clifton Drive and east of Robertson Boulevard where the walk will take place - will be on Wednesday, April 29, at 10 a.m.
