Beverly Hills Relaxes Mask Mandate

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The Beverly Hills City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to amend its health ordinance to follow new CDC guidelines that came out that day. Soon, fully vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear a mask while exercising outdoors alone, or in small gatherings with members of their households.

Once L.A. County amends its guidelines to accommodate new CDC rules, they will take effect in Beverly Hills.

New CDC guidance says that starting two weeks after their last vaccination, people no longer need masks to walk, bike, run, etc. outdoors with members of their household; attend small outdoor gatherings with vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals; or dine outdoors with people from many households.

Masks are still recommended for vaccinated individuals at any indoor public gathering, or crowded gathering outdoors where six feet of gathering is impossible. For more information, visit the CDC website.

On April 10, 2020, Beverly Hills was one of the first cities in the county to pass an urgency ordinance requiring masks for anyone walking outside. Since vaccine passports are still a topic of heated debate, it appears the honor system will determine which maskless people are actually vaccinated.

However, California has incentivized the use of passports by raising capacity limits for venues that require proof of vaccination. While state and countywide vaccine rules are unlikely, individual businesses are still free to ask for them.
