Beverly Hills Repeals More Social Distancing, Mask Requirements

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The Beverly Hills City Council voted Thursday to repeal certain COVID-19 related emergency regulations and resume in-person Council meetings starting July 15.

The Council voted to remove the follow items from the city’s Urgency Ordinance, effective immediately:

• Social distance requirements for customers waiting in line
• Mask and glove requirements for employees and customers
• Prohibition on the increase in internet access fees
• Prohibition on the sale of self-service unwrapped food items
• The suspension of the prohibition on non-recyclable bags

The Council also voted to require unvaccinated individuals to wear face coverings indoors. In keeping with county guidance on youth centers, the Beverly Hills Public Library, Community Centers, and Greystone Mansion will require face coverings regardless of vaccination status due to the presence of children under the age of 12.

Employers and workplaces may allow vaccinated employees not to wear face coverings indoors, but must document their vaccination status.

At the upcoming July 15 meeting, the Council will also consider updating additional urgency ordinance items, such as the suspension of penalties and interest on business taxes, a timeline for enforcing the city’s sign and banner code, and a prohibition on residential evictions, among many others.

City Hall reopened to the public May 5.
