Charlton Heston's Former Beverly Hills Home For Sale

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Charlton Heston's former home is on the market in Beverly Hills for $14.9 million.

Heston, an Academy Award-winning actor and conservative political activist, lived in the home until he died in 2008 at the age of 84. He had it custom-built shortly after the movie Ben-Hur wrapped in 1959, and sometimes referred to it as "the house that Ben-Hur built," Realtor.com reported.

The home changed hands for the first time in 2016, and at the time it was said to be in need of "a loving restoration," the real estate website said. Renovations were underway, but eventually stalled. The current listing photos show the home halfway renovated, with the house mainly gutted.

The property boasts a three-story studio/guest house with a screening room and elevator, as well as a tennis court, clubhouse spa area and massive viewing terraces.

The 5-bedroom main home sits on 2.9 acres, with approved plans for about 14,600 square feet of living space.

Heston appeared in nearly 100 films over the course of his 60-year career, including The Ten Commandments (1956), Touch of Evil (1958), Planet of the Apes (1968) and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952).
