Lieu campaign spokesperson Marc Cevasco told the Beverly Press that Lieu plans to focus on the coronavirus pandemic as his top priority.
"In the midst of an ongoing public health crisis, the immediate response has to be how we're going to get that under control," he said. "Then you have to move onto relief and how we're going to stabilize an economy that's still in shock."
Bradley, a Rhode Island native, served as CFO-COO of EmpathaCM and CEO of Health Alliance Corporation. EmpathaCM describes itself as "innovators in the health care, managed care and compensation claims space," while Health Alliance Corporation is listed only on LinkedIn as a Laguna Niguel-based company that, "Offering Medical Futuristics in technologies and therapeutics today."
Bradley challenged Sen. Dianne Feinstein in 2018 and U.S. Rep. Harley Rouda of Laguna Beach in the 2014 election, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times, though his campaign manager Susana Sheil told the Beverly Press that she is unaware of Bradley challenging Rouda.
Bradley lists LAX noise, "the right of parents to make healthcare decisions for themselves and their children" —Sheil told the Beverly Press that Bradley wants to push back against requirements for vaccines for children, though this is not stated on his website —support for Israel, veteran healthcare, and funding for the homeless as some of his top concerns.
The two candidates have not debated: Sheil claims that they have asked several times, while Cevasco said he was not aware of any requests for a debate. He also said that he doesn't think a debate would be "productive."
"I've seen some of the campaign material our opponent has put out," he said. "I'm not sure how productive a discussion would be. I think if our opponent believes that the voters in the 33rd District want a conservative to represent them in Washington, he's free to make that case."
Lieu won against Republican Elan Carr in 2014 with 59.2 percent of the vote to Carr's 40.8 percent, according to Ballotpedia. While no polls on the current race are available, the 33rd District has supported Democratic candidates by large margins in every election since 1992, and has been represented by a Democrat in Congress since 1993.
