Legendary Hearst Estate Listed For $90 Million
One of the most famed estates in the world is listed for over $100 million less than its original asking price.
BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Only in Beverly Hills could a $90 million house be considered a 'bargain,' but then again, it's not every day you come across a palace once home to William Randolph Hearst.
The 29,000 square-foot Mediterranean Revival was built in 1926 by Gordon Kaufmann, the architect who designed the Hoover Dam, the Greystone Mansion, the Hollywood Palladium, and the former Los Angeles Times building. Hearst lived there with actress Marion Davies from 1946 until his death in 1951. Since then, the famous salmon-colored home has hosted a bevvy of international stars: John and Jackie Kennedy honeymooned there in 1953, and "The Godfather," "The Bodyguard," and Beyoncé have all filmed there.
Longtime owner attorney Leonard Ross tried to sell the estate in 2016 for $195 million, but Ross racked up millions in debts and put the property into bankruptcy, according to the Los Angeles Times. The lender, Fortress Investment Group, petitioned a bankruptcy court to force the sale.

So what is it like to live a home once valued at $195 million? It's like living in a resplendent museum, with almost every room full of high ceilings, chandeliers, and priceless art and furniture. In true Golden Age style, it offers two screening rooms and even its own Art Deco-style nightclub. 22-foot, hand-painted ceilings tower over wood-paneled libraries, stone fireplaces reminiscent of those at Hearst Castle, and rooms that can accommodate over 1,000 guests. The palace features eight bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and ample outdoor grounds featuring lawns, loggias, fountains, terraces, decks, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a tennis court, and the city's longest private driveway.
Anthony Marguleas of Amalfi Estates shares the listing with Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland and Zizi Pak of Rodeo Realty.
