Ron Glass of 'Barney Miller' Fame Dies at 71

There was no word on the cause of death.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Actor Ron Glass, best known for playing dapper Detective Ron Harris on the long-running sitcom "Barney Miller," has died at the age of 71.

Harris died Friday night in Los Angeles, according to Leon Jones, who works at SGI-USA Los Angeles Friendship Center - Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism, where Harris was an active member of the local Buddhist community.

There was no word on the cause of death.

"Barney Miller" ran on ABC from 1975 to 1982. Glass was nominated for an Emmy for playing Harris, a fastidious policeman who often seemed preoccupied with his attire and dreamed of a career as a writer.

Glass, an Indiana native, continued to work often in television, appearing most recently on an episode of "CSI" in 2014.
