Which Movies Have The Best Visual Effects?
"Blade Runner 2049" and "War for the Planet of the Apes" each have 7 nominations for the Visual Effects Society Awards.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – "Blade Runner 2049" and "War for the Planet of the Apes" each have a leading seven nominations for the 16th annual Visual Effects Society Awards, which will be presented Tuesday evening in Beverly Hills.
"Despicable Me 3" leads the way among animated films with five nominations, while HBO's "Game of Thrones" dominates the television categories with a leading 11 nods.
"Blade Runner 2029" and "War for the Planet of the Apes" are nominated for best visual effects in a "photoreal feature," along with "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Kong: Skull Island" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

For animated feature film effects, "Despicable Me 3" will compete with "Captain Underpants," "Cars 3," "Coco," "The Lego Batman Movie" and "The Lego Ninjago Movie."
"Game of Thrones" is nominated for best visual effects in a photoreal episode, as are episodes of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Legion," "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Stranger Things 2."

The awards will be presented at the Beverly Hilton in a ceremony hosted by actor/comedian Patton Oswalt. Writer/director Jon Favreau will receive the VES Lifetime Achievement Award during the event. Oscar-winning visual effects artist Joe Letteri will receive the society's Georges Melies Award.
