Catch Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella at San Mateo High School
This Updated Version of a Classic Fairy Tale Is Fun for All Ages. Children Are Invited To Come in Costume to the February 3 Matinee.
San Mateo High School Performing Arts is delighted to present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center from February 1st through the 10th.
Cinderella originated as one of the first live musical theatre productions performed on television. The 1957 premiere featured a young Julie Andrews in the title role, followed in 1965 by Lesley Ann Warren and in 1997 by Brandy. The composers quickly adapted their TV hit to the stage, and each incarnation has featured different “trunk” songs abandoned from other Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
San Mateo High is presenting the latest version of the show, first produced on Broadway in 2013 with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane. Filled with all the charm and lush music of the original, this is a Cinderella for a more enlightened era. In addition to finding love, our heroine also teaches her Prince Charming how to be a better ruler. The show is directed by Brad Friedman, with musical direction by Attilio Tribuzi and choreography by Robyn Tribuzi.
