Free, Gas-Appliance Safety Checks Offered By PG&E

Inspections on such units as water heaters, furnaces or ovens can be scheduled before winter hits.

SF BAY AREA, CA — PG&E on Thursday issued a reminder to its customers that the utility provides free in-home safety inspections of gas appliances and relighting of pilot lights ahead of the colder winter months.

People can call (800) 743-5000 to schedule an inspection of appliances such as water heaters, furnaces and ovens, according to PG&E.

The utility also recommends that people install carbon monoxide detectors, to never use products like generates or propane heaters inside since they can generate dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, and to make sure fireplaces have the flue open so venting can occur.
