A Horned Frog Named Tequila Just Wants You To Love Him

The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in Burlingame looks to re-home two unusual pets.

BURLINGAME, CA — They may not be fluffy or cuddly, but two new animals that just became available for adoption at the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA need to be loved and cared for just the same.

One of them is an Argentine horned frog named Tequila that was in a tank left outside the PHS adoption center in Burlingame, with a note attached that said ‘Hi, find the little guy a good home, Merry Christmas’, said the Center’s Communications Manager Buffy Martin-Tarbox in a statement.

The other animal is a sulcata tortoise named Tank, which Martin-Tarbox said was surrendered because its owner could no longer care for him. Not too surprising, as they can grow up to 27 inches, weigh up to 110 pounds and live 80 years (or shorter, if they don’t stop their texting-while-driving habits).

“Each animal will require specialized housing and care, and in order for the frog and the tortoise to thrive, we will only place them in homes experienced with these species,” said Martin-Tarbox.

Argentine horned frogs are also dubbed the Pac-Man frog on account of their very large mouths. They live from seven to 10 years.

Unlike most shelters, the PHS takes in all kinds of animals. Potential adopters of Tank, Tequila, or a less-scaly creature should drop by the PHS’s Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame, or call 650-340-7022.
