Join Burlingame's Citywide Emergency Drill

Deadline for signing up is Sept. 25

All Burlingame residents are invited to participate in the city’s sixth annual Citywide Emergency Drill on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The deadline for signups is September 25.

You’ll learn how work together with neighbors and support one another following a disaster, when professional help may not be available for 72 hours or longer. You’ll also test an emergency communications network staffed by volunteer Ham radio operators that allows neighbors to request help from professional emergency responders and receive official notifications. And participation can help your neighborhood qualify for a free cache of emergency supplies valued at $550.

Students at Burlingame High School and Burlingame Intermediate School can qualify for service credit if they participate in the drill, attend training workshops on September 27 and October 2, and/or volunteer to distribute informational flyers about the drill.

This exercise is organized by the Burlingame Neighborhood Network (BNN) and is supported by the Central County Fire Department, the Burlingame Police Department, Burlingame CERTs and local HAM radio operators. It will take place on multiple blocks throughout Burlingame. Adults and children 10 and older can take active roles. It’s free.

Individuals planning to lead a drill – and anyone who is interested – should attend the Drill Walk-Through on September 27, where supplies will be distributed, and the Communications Workshop on October 2; both begin at 7 p.m. in the Lane Room at the Burlingame Public Library.
