National family safety program coming to Burlingame

The Keeping Kids Safe Project is partnering up with local law enforcement & community organizations for a free, educational, fun kids event.

On Saturday September 7th the Keeping Kids Safe Project will be having a free safety event for families in Burlingame. The Safety program based out of central Iowa has been touring the county for 15 years. They have provided thousands of families with fingerprint records for their children along with helpful safety information and valuable community connections. Lytishya Borglum, founder of the Keeping Kids Safe Project and mother of five says, “ our goal is not just to provide fingerprints in case something happens but to hold events to raise awareness, spread resources and connect communities so we can take a pro-active approach to safety and hopefully help prevent awful situations from arising.”

The Burlingame Police Department will be cruising in to the event in their 1968 Mustang and will be joined by the California Highway Patrol to interact with kids throughout the day. The event will feature local organizations such as the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA with their furry friends from the pet assisted therapy program, the American Red Cross, Head-start, along with United Studios of Self Defense, America’s self-defense leader since 1968. Also attending will be Operation Lifesaver, a non-profit organization providing public education programs in states across the U.S. to prevent collisions, injuries and fatalities on and around railroad tracks and highway-rail grade crossings.

All activities are free and will take place from 10:00am until 4:00 pm at 1010 Cadillac Way inside the Porsche Burlingame building where they have generously provided space and sponsored the event keeping everything free for families.

Keeping Kids Safe Project representative, Doug Schwebach, who spent many years in EMS, reflects “I have seen lives changed in an instant! Most of those tragic incidences could have been avoided. If I help prevent even just one child or parent from suffering I will feel thankful.” Doug will be onsite providing free digital fingerprinting for families that attend with the Keeping Kids Safe Project’s portable bio-metric fingerprinting system. Keeping Kids Safe Project would like to ensure all families that there are absolutely no records kept of a family’s visit, no personal information is shared or requested to safeguard their privacy and keep information from being data-based or recorded. Each family will get a fingerprint record with prints and a photo of their child and they will fill in the personal information once in the safety of their own home. The record can then be stored with the child’s school phots and can be handed over immediately to law enforcement should the need arise.
