Non-Injury Burlingame Caltrain Crash Snarls Evening Commute

BURLINGAME, CA — A Caltrain train struck an unoccupied vehicle in Burlingame on Wednesday evening, snarling the rush hour commute but causing no injuries, a San Mateo County Transit District spokesperson said.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. when a northbound train collided with a vehicle at the Oak Grove grade crossing, just north of the Burlingame Caltrain Station.

The driver was able to get out of the car before the train made impact with the vehicle.

There were approximately 231 passengers aboard the train.

The northbound lane reopened at 6:10 p.m., about 10 minutes after the involved train was released for movement.

Caltrain reopened the southbound track about 35 minutes after the crash, restricting single tracking speed to 20 mph.
