What's That Gas Smell?

PG&E is doing work adjacent to Highway 280 near Hillsborough.

PG&E will be venting small amounts of natural gas throughout the day on Monday the Crystal Springs Valve lot property, adjacent to Highway 280 near Hillsborough. This will allow their crews to continue to safely complete work on a new automated valve on our gas transmission line, according to the Hillsborough Police Department.

An IVR (pre-recorded phone call) notified residents in the surrounding area the day before of a slight gas odor and/or noise associated with this work:

"Hello, this is PG&E calling to let you know that PG&E will be venting natural gas in Hillsborough in the open field near Interstate 280 on Monday, July 22nd  as crews prepare to upgrade a natural gas shut-off valve near you. Traffic will not be affected for this work, but additional construction will begin in August.”

Residents may smell natural gas and hear a loud, steady noise while gas is released from the pipeline in a safe and controlled manner. Although the situation is safe, please call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 with any safety concerns or learn more about gas safety at www.PGE.com.

Your PG&E gas and electric service will not be affected.
