110 Calabasans Lose Power In Planned Outage

Customers near Stunt Ranch and Hidden Hills had their power shut off due to electrical upgrades.

CALABASAS, CA — Two planned maintenance outages shut off power for 110 people in Calabasas Tuesday, Southern California Edison confirmed.

Unlike Public Safety Power Shutoffs, when SCE shuts off power due to high fire risk, Tuesday's outages were planned ahead of time in order to upgrade existing equipment, a spokesperson confirmed to Patch. Much of the city was threatened with shutoffs in January due to high winds and low humidity, but those never materialized. However, numerous shutoffs occurred in nearby Malibu, Chatsworth, and all over Ventura County.

Though winds are high, recent precipitation means that fire levels are currently low throughout the Southland.

All residents in the affected area were notified of the shutoff ahead of time, an SCE spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

One outage affected 59 people living in between Abercrombie Lane, West Copacabana Street, Piuma Road, and West Cold Canyon Road, around Stunt Ranch and Malibu Creek State Park. The outage was reported at 10:14 a.m. Tuesday and power was restored as of 1:03 p.m. Tuesday, according to SCE. The purpose of the outage was to replace an electrical cross arm.

The second outage is still ongoing as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, though partial restoration was reported at 9:37 a.m. It began at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and affected 41 customers living between Collingwood Circle, Queenscliff Court, Mountain View Drive, and Enderby Court. SCE planned the outage because its crews needed to replace a splice box to isolate our equipment to complete the repair.
