Calabasas Celebrates Earth Week With Tree Planting, Creek Cleanup
This weekend, Calabasans are invited to help plant trees to replace oaks burned in the Woolsey Fire, and clean up Las Virgenes Creek.
CALABASAS, CA — Who knows what you might find buried deep under Las Virgenes Creek? Probably some plastic water bottles, disposable face masks, a lighter or two. But if you find anything beyond that, you may be eligible for a prize.
Thursday is Earth Day, and in Calabasas it’s kicking off over a week devoted to preserving the city’s unique environment. On Sunday, the Mayor’s Youth Council of Calabasas is sponsoring a creek cleanup and awarding a $25 gift card to whoever finds the most interesting trinket. Volunteers/treasure hunters will meet Sunday at 10 a.m. behind the Calabasas Tech Center at 26662 Agoura Road, and clean until noon.
On Saturday, volunteers can meet at the same spot at 10 a.m. for a celebration of Arbor Day. Volunteers will help plant replacement oak trees to replace those burned in the Woolsey Fire. The event will end with an official Tree Planting Ceremony.
