CALABASAS, CA — The Calabasas Senior Center announced that it will reopen June 21, provided there is no major change in COVID numbers.

Center supervisor Kimberly Post wrote in the center’s May newsletter that staff has been surveying members to see how many want to return to in-person activities and how many wish to continue virtually. The preliminary plan is to open in phases: in Phase 1, in-person classes and clubs will return, in Phase 2, table games would reopen with modifications, and in Phase 3, excursions and social events will return. Post said that the center will adhere to all county and state safety guidelines and protocols.

Post also said that staff is also seeking input from members for alternative reopening plans.

The center has been closed since March 16, but it has retained a robust array of courses, clubs, and charitable activities. The Savvy Senior Club has collected eyeglasses, scarves, hats, shoes, and cards to needy people, helped deliver food, and has set up a phone tree to help alleviate the loneliness of lockdown. The center has offered more than 80 classes in every topic imaginable, virtual fitness classes, book clubs, fun viral videos, and much more.

The Agoura Hills-Calabasas Community remains closed for the foreseeable future, according to a recent update from Mayor James Bozajian.
