Halsey Buys Liam Payne's 'Haunted' Calabasas Castle For $10.2M
The former One Direction singer said he saw taps turn on and off, and lights go on and off in the middle of the night.
CALABASAS, CA — Halsey, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter and activist, spent almost $10.2 million on the former Calabasas home of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, according to a report in Dirt.
Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, bought the sprawling Spanish estate in a gated community shortly before announcing that she was pregnant with her first child on Wednesday. The popular singer, best known for her single "Without Me," her collaboration with the EDM duo Chainsmokers, and her activist on behalf of racial justice and sexual assault victims, sold her home in Beachwood Canyon in Los Angeles a year ago for $2.375 million, Dirt reported. She still owns a $2.4 million midcentury Sherman Oaks home.
Payne bought the 9,659-square-foot Calabasas mansion in 2015, and listed it for $14 million in 2018 after splitting up with former girlfriend Cheryl Cole. He couldn't find any takers, and briefly listed it as a rental home at $50,000 a month, before eventually cutting the price to $10.5 million in June 2020.

Payne has reported in the past that he suspects the lush home - which features a long entryway with a bridge, expansive views, five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a two-story, wood-paneled library, an indoor movie theater, an outdoor pool with waterfalls, a wine cellar with entertaining space, koi ponds, and of course, a small recording studio — may be haunted. In a 2017 interview with The Sun, Payne said that he and his wife thought the mansion was haunted, and his wife refused to sleep upstairs while she was pregnant.
"I've seen lights go on and off in the middle of the night and a few little creepy things, like taps turning on and off," he said. "If you don't believe in it, I don't think I can get to you. But Cheryl was like, 'I'm not sleeping upstairs.' So we slept downstairs in the cinema room."
