How To Avoid Getting Sick This Holiday Season

Exer More Than Urgent Care shares everything you need to know about staying healthy during the busiest time of year. [SPONSORED]

The holiday season has arrived, and according to the American Automobile Association (AAA), an estimated 7.7 million Southern Californians will be traveling during the holidays — which means an increased spread in germs. Luckily, the medical teams at Exer More Than Urgent Care gave Patch some recommendations and guidance to help people stay healthy during this holiday season.

Exer More Than Urgent Care is an emergency-room alternative staffed with ER doctors to help you feel better, faster. All seven Exer facilities have on-site X-rays, labs, pharmacies and IVs. They also offer more medical services than a typical walk-in urgent care and are staffed with ER doctors who have, on average, more than 15 years of emergency medical experience. Their medical teams can stabilize and treat more than 80-percent of cases seen daily in a local ER, with little-to-no waiting and for a fraction of the price.

The Exer teams have seen it all when it comes to treating colds and flu. Here's what they suggest in order to limit germ spreading and stay healthy:

Wash Hands Often to Prevent the Spread of Germs

Germs spread quickly, and with an influx of holiday activities, group gatherings and traveling, it’s important to remember to wash hands as frequently as possible. Avoid contracting an illness this winter by consistently washing hands or using hand sanitizer while on the go.

Carve Out Time for Yourself

The holidays are notorious for being a stressful time of the year, and it’s important to remember to take care of individual well-being. Keep exercising, stay active, take vitamins, get plenty of rest and take it easy if feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

Stay Hydrated

With the increase of celebrations, it’s important to drink plenty of water through all holiday activities. Dehydration makes one more susceptible to illness and can prolong recovery. Keep in mind that coffee and evening cocktails are not hydrating beverages, and additional water should be consumed with these beverages to avoid dehydration. As a friendly reminder, drink responsibly and always have a designated driver.

Get Vaccinated

It’s important to remember this time of year is flu season! An estimated 9.2 million flu illnesses occur annually in the United States, with 36 flu-related deaths here in Los Angeles last year. Come in and get your flu vaccine within a matter of minutes at your local Exer clinic.

Exer clinics are open seven days-a-week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and last patients are registered daily at 8:30 p.m.
